Frequently Asked Questions
What is a domain name?
A selection of questions that you may be asking yourself. Put simply a domain name is the address that people use to find you or your company online; it's what you type in the browser's address bar to go to a specific website. For example, our domain name is: http://www.domaingod.com (in today's browsers, it's not always necessary to type the the "www"). What is a blog?A blog is a personal diary. Your blog is whatever you want it to be. There are millions of them, in all shapes and sizes, and there are no real rules. In simple terms, a blog is a website, where you write stuff on an ongoing basis. New stuff shows up at the top, so your visitors can read what's new. What is bandwidth?A very simple analogy to use to understand bandwidth and traffic is to think of motorways and cars. Bandwidth is the number of lanes on the motorway and traffic is the number of cars on the motorway. If you are the only car on a motorway, you can travel very quickly. If you are stuck in the middle of rush hour, you may travel very slowly since all of the lanes are being used up. Each time you visit a web site, you are creating traffic, because in order to view that web page on your computer, the web page is first downloaded to your computer (between the web site and you) which is then displayed using your browser software (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.). The page itself is simply a file that creates traffic. What can I use web space for?'Web space' is basically storage space for a web site on a server that is permanently connected to the Internet. You can store your files, your pictures, and whatever else you wish to publish on the Internet for people to see. It's a means of showcasing your products, advertising your services or even just letting your friends know what you're up to! |
